Ok, I'm planning to give the two girls a bath in the next few weeks.  I've had them for 2 years now and neither one has been thoroughly bathed that whole time!  They are overdue in my opinion.

But here's my question for all you breeders that have 10 and 20 horses.  How often to you bathe them?  With that many horses, I would imagine you don't do it too often, but I was just curious.  My big horse usually gets bathed several times in the summer and also sprayed off when we ride and he gets sweaty.

I know Moriah is not going to take kindly to this bathing idea, so I might go out in my swim suit for it.  I expect I'll be as wet as she is by the end.  Shiloh should be ok.  But then again, maybe I'll be wrong -- I'll report back!

Only if I am going to clip them.... otherwise I let the rain take care of the baths...

I too let the rain do the job of washing, I have never clipped any of my horses.

I only bathed Lady if we were going to compete in a driving show, so that means maybe twice a year.  A good product for white on a horse is, believe it or not, Head & Shoulders.  Forget about those whitening horse shampoos and products that can make a horse tingle and go nuts ( my neighbor's Chincoteague mare had a reaction to one of those products and went totally mad, racing around and crashing through a board fence and running down the road, etc. ).  Head & Shoulders got Lady smashing white.  You could see the pink skin under her white areas!  It turned the yellowish feathers bright-white, too.

Head snd Shoulders is a good Idea, it has zinc in it so it doesn't tingle at all. I can see why they would be weireded out by the tingling.

Gee, I didn't know about this tingling thing.
Does the shampoo "Mane and Tail" tingle, too?
That's what I've been using on Aslan.  It doesn't tingle on my hands?

I use Mane and Tail most of the time unless i need a little something with an iodine base, like when 1 of them had rain rot

Mine get a bath every spring before i clip them. I may only clip the head and neck/shoulder area or a bridle bath but i give them a once a year bath....except the babies. If i clip head and neck on them i do it without bathing.

I don't think i have ever given my saddle horse a bath though. I have hosed him down does that count?
