Came home from town yesterday and noticed my 2 year old black filly standing out at the far end of the run. Didn't see the rest so assumed they were under the shelter, which they were. But Maddie had gotten herself across a big ice patch and there she was, afraid to try to get back. She made a good choice waiting for us! Nasty. Haltered her and hubby held her head and front end snuggly while Maddie and i worked together to get her across. I had to cobble up a fence to keep them in the upper part. I put out a bunch of ice melt and even some barn lime and nothing seemed to cut that ice. I may try breaking it up some with an axe later today. Sounds like work doesn't it

I have another small run that is a skating rink too. So my horses are getting out for a couple hours and then i switch groups so they all get out some. This is why i hate these warm up days in the winter.

That is very scary  when the paddocks are iced up. We are being dumped on with more snow and lots of wind all morning, it is finally letting up abit.

Wow - smart horse to wait for you for help.
I have a friend in WI whose horse followed her onto some ice the other day.  The horse totally panicked and went catatonic and laid down!  He was just trembling all over.  My friend had to push the horse off of the ice so he could get back up again.  Ice is scary.
