I had more fun than I remember having as a kid last weekend! Four days where the whole world revolved around me and my horse. It was fabulous. I learned tons and Aslan had a good time, too. The best part is that now I have the whole summer to play with the things we learned and to get an even better relationship with my horses. Yesterday I spent an hour with each of my horses. The little ones could hardly believe that they were finally getting to play again -- it's been so long since we've done much together other than feed and groom. Moriah got real wound up and tried to do everything as fast as possible so she could grab a bite of grass inbetween. Not too conducive to paying attention! Shiloh was almost as preoccupied with grass, but at one point she got frustrated and couldn't figure out what I was asking. Finally, instead of wildly trying out various answers, she looked at me and asked, "Now, what is it that you want?" And then it was quite easy! She's my sweetheart for sure. Aslan and I are playing around with all kinds of games and yesterday we went around trees until the rope got taut and then followed the feel of the rope backwards around the tree. Then we did driving from behind with two reins. I can send him in a circle where one rein is around his back legs and then change directions. It's pretty neat.
Moriah liked jumping and easily cleared two feet. She looked so satisfied when we did that -- it had a real purpose in her mind. Aslan went up to the same jump and said it was way too high. I laughed and told him Moriah had just jumped it fine!
I also set up a temporary fence in my back yard directly behind the house where the deck overlooks. The horses get to graze there (cheap lawn mowers) for 2-3 hours every day. I sit on my deck and can see them below while I watch a horse DVD! Too cool. How much better can it get?!
