Fly sheet

I put a fly sheet on Aslan this afternoon to test it out and see how he would react.  He gets these huge hives from bug bites, and I'm trying out a sheet that is treated with insect repellent instead of using the spray right on his skin all the time.

Well, he was fine with the sheet, especially after he managed to roll in it.
Moriah, on the other hand, was sure it was something dangerous and she kept trying to bite it and get it off of him.  Thankfully he is such a patient horse and he kept telling he was still the same Aslan inside the sheet!
Didn't take too long and they were all ok again, but it was funny to watch at first.  Shiloh also would come up to him to sniff the thing and ask him what on earth he got himself into!

It really does seem to work - no flies around Aslan at all.
I took it off this evening and he started snapping at the flies again.
It does seem to restrict movement a little, especially when it slides backward.  Gets a little tight in the chest then.  I guess I can use it when the pests get really bad.  I've been feeding everybody garlic powder lately, and that seems to be helping.  The bites on Aslan's belly aren't near what they used to be without the garlic.  Trying to avoid using the Belly Dickie this year if possible.  I bought the garlic several years ago but never managed to get them to eat it.  This year I discovered that they will eat absolutely anything if it is mixed with soaked alfalfa cubes!!!!!!
So, a handful of alfalfa with garlic and chia seeds is now a welcome treat each day.

Anyone else have ideas for fly control?

It is for horses.  Has particularly high sulfur content.
