Is that a trick question?? I make buttermilk pies and chess pies.. but fried chocolate?? I've never dreamed 'fried' and 'chocolate' would be together in the same sentence and I feel this may be the answer to life's problems... please share!

Joyce

Sounds interesting! Why are you going to make me one?
Please share the recipe so I can see if I want to make one. I'm on my starvation diet right now, so anything will taste good.

I've never heard of any of these pies you guys are mentioning! Must be 'cuz I'm a Yankee. All we make are apple, mincemeat, pumpkin, and pecan pies up here. The pecan pie is because I'm half Southern. Dad's a Yankee from NYS and Mom's a Reb from Texas.

I don't know what I am since I was born and raised near Chicago, but
we always had pecan pie. Is your Cherokee roots from you Mom's side then? Mine are all over my Dad's side the southern side. Don't know if you noticed but Paul doesn't look like he matches his parents. Everyone thinks he's hispanic. He's not. He took after the Cherokee side. The red hair is on my mom's side.
I use to dye my hair black and my mom ironed it once a week for me
to match my son Paul.... lol How wierd is that & my mother contributed to my ... (new word) wierdisum See how hard it is to stay on the post subject ...... PIES

I have been working & painting houses today You know Paul I'm not use to real work. You guys are talking to me and I wasn't even here
Yes I got it and it's a lot of work. I think I'll buy the pillsbury crust in the box that you un-roll to make it quicker. I also have the pampered cheif thingy that pinches the crust together that I must have bought at one of those silly parties. I have never used it and have had it a many years.
So I'll try to make it sometime this week.

I've never had beet greens. Is that the greens at the top of the beets??
Very good for us. Don't know how to cook them though. and Swiss chard is another one I don't know. I should be eating it as well. How do you prepare them?

I freeze and use beet tops in borsch soup in the winter too, along
with beets. Mixed up country with mixed up food choices. Hubby and I

Is your Cherokee roots from you Mom's side then?
Yes, Cherokee on Mom's, Mohawk on Dad's, and lots of English, Scottish, and a pinch of German and French from both sides. I'm a real mutt.

Sher

I went to college in Virginia ( near Lexington ), and the first morning there we werre served eggs, bacon, ham, oatmeal, and what I thought was Cream O' Wheat. I went ahead and put sugar and milk on mine, and all the Southern Belles just looked at my bowl with their mouths open in horror. Turns out my Cream 'O' Wheat was actually Grits. My roomie was from VA, so she held the others at bay while I went ahead and ate it that way. I hadn't had Grits since i was a kid and Mom had sprung them on the family one Breakfast. She was always trying to sneak something "Southern" into our meals ... Red Beans & Rice, Hominy ( gag ), Black Beans.............

French, my mom's side. My great grandmother was French, didn't speak any english kind of french. Don't know where this hair comes from on that side, but I know it's not the Cherokee side.

O.K. Here is one for Paul....
Bring this to your next potluck, I guarantee they will never ask you to bring anything else!
Kitty Litter Cake
Serving Size: 24
Notes: This is a fun cake! It might look gross, but it does taste good!
Ingredients:
1 (18 oz.) box spice or german chocolate cake mix
1 (18 oz.) box white cake mix
1 pkg. white sandwich cookies
1 large box vanilla instant pudding mix
12 small tootsie rolls
1 litter box (preferably a NEW one!)
1 plastic scoop
green food coloring
Preparation:
Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans).
Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble. Crumble white
sandwich cookies in small batches in blender, they tend to stick, so
scrape often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup. To the 1/4 cup cookie
crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix using a fork or
shake in a jar.
When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl.
Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled
pudding. You probably won't need all of the pudding, mix with the cake
and "feel" it, you don't want it soggy, just moist; gently combine. Put
mixture into clean litter box.
Put three unwrapped Tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat
until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving
slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls and bury in mixture. Sprinkle
the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie
crumbs lightly over the top, this is supposed to look like the
chlorophyll in kitty litter. Heat remaining Tootsie Rolls, three at a
time in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the
cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Place the box on a newspaper and
sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around. Serve with a new pooper
scooper.

That does sound like Kitty litter Don't forget the New scooper pooper Paul!

That's ok, I am too! I taste more than toss. Sounds good .... I'll give it a try. We eat a lot of soup since it's just two of us and the dogs.
Especially when we're working at one of the properties. I throw whatever in the crock and take it with. No bowls .... we just eat out of the pot!
Thank you!

Sorry I'm late responding. I don't get home from work til 12-1am
I have an awesome oven-baked mac&cheese recipe if anybody wants it.. quick, easy and an excellent side dish. um.. none of my recipes are healthy. But I've never served my mac & cheese and had somebody not love it.. unless they were lactose intolerant and that's another topic.
|
McBunz
|
Well lets see your mac and cheese stuff lad.. I'll try it..
|
Paul
|
Mac & Cheese:
Boil 1 cup of macaroni for about 10 minutes
remove from heat and add 2 eggs... about 1/4 cup milk or so..
2 tbls Lawry's seasoned salt and 1 tlbs pepper..
(If you use a box throw in the orange season packet too)
put half the noodles in a 9x9 square pan.. cover with 1 8-12 oz bag shredded cheese (or shred a block yourself if you're bored)
put the other half of the noodles on top.. then another whole bag of cheese... sharp, mild or any kind of cheese you like
Bake 400 for about 25 minutes...
best with greens and cornbread!
|
McBunz
|
Well Paul that sounds much like I do it except for the eggs. Then I
like to throw in canned diced tomatoes and chopped onion. But then
I put tomatoes and onion in almost anything except browinies.
