Got a scare last night..I fed them a treat of watermelons cut up..Bandit always lifts his head iver his gate..and he got a piece stuck somewhere..I don't think he chocked..But made faces, kept his mouth open..like he was trying to work it loose..I stuck my finers in his mouth but couldn't feel nothing..gave him a bid of feed..he ate it but strangly chewing motion..I was ready to stick the waterhose in his mouth but was scared to get fluid into his lungs..
Eventually he was acting normal again..But made me think..watermelon would NOT dissolve..ask hubby what he would have done..he said Bust him in his chest..wonder if that would have worked..I will feed it from now on on the ground!

I bet that would work. Sort of like when we get something caught in our throat. Stroking the neck area as if working something down works also. Like you would do to a dog when trying to get them to swallow pills.

That would be scarey..I use to have to ram my hand down Nitro's
throat to retrieve rawhides the moron would swallow whole. Don't
know how that would work with a horse unless you blocked the jaw
with the mouth open. Not much time to spare when they are choking.
