Herbal Tea for horses?

I've been making herbal teas for my pregnant goat girls. They love the warm tea when it's cold out. It's been helping them not cough as much. I carry two smaller buckets  (3 gal?) full of herb water every morning. Well because I have more goats and less room most of the goat girls are hanging with the horses.

Last few days when I went out to check the smaller tea trough and it was completely empty. Today I watch out the window and figured it out.
It seems the horses LOVE the herb tea too. I watched them drink it completely gone.    Hope it's good for them as it is for the goats.

Seems like your critters like the favored warm water I can't see it being bad for ever ones. How lucky your critters are! Some of mine don't drink if I add the apple cider in the summer so making herbal tea for mine. Mine more then likely won't like it.

Interesting Joyce. Why do you think the Herbal tea helps the coughing? Curious. Sounds yummy to me.

It's helps MY coughing ?   Lots of warm fluids plus the added nutrients of herbs. Plant based they are full of vitamins and nutrients we would not get unless you browse . lol   A lot of things that help us, help our animals too. Different herbs have different health benifits. I also rub rosemary on their noses to help breath better in the winter. Herbs like Echinacea root, elderflower, fennel, calendula ( marigold petals) cinnamon these are Flu fighting herbs.
Also they help build the immune system like Rose hips ( have vitamin C) orange and lemon peels, ginger to aid digestion, improve circulation.
The Rooibos teas are the most bennificial (sp?) but they just don't help my spelling memory.
Rich in essential minerals that you just can't get from usual drinks like juice, coffee or soda.
Not that anyone else would be excited about this, but I found these
fruit blends of pieces of dried fruits, natural flavors, rich in Vit C but you make them like a tea that can be enjoyed either hot or cold drink. For those who can't have the sugar or frutose corn syrup that's in practically in everything except water. You can controll the amount of sweetness. You know in the south Sweet Tea is a big deal, but it's not sweet tea without the sugar being dissolved while it is warm. I found that if I add RAW honey, it does not have an effect on the blood sugar plus it also has benifits. Our neighbor makes his own RAW honey, so I buy it from him.
ARE YOU SORRY YOU ASKED ME BETTY ABOUT the HERB TEAS?? LOL  Sorry these things excite me.

No not sorry at all. Thank you for the information. Do you think that Ginger aids circulation for us as we get older? My hubby has poor circulation i think. Freezing hands and legs. How would i find ginger? Would it need to be in a tea drink? As you can tell i am dumb about these things. LOL

Used to take essential mineral in a drink.

So you rub rosemary on their noses to help them breathe. Apparently it must come in a leaf?

Betty,
From what I can remember for circulation problems Ginkgo biloba has been well proven to help improve circulation, it also helps tinnitus, dementia, poor circulation to arms and legs. But also Cayenne pepper and ginger. They come in capsual form, but I personally think we have trouble absorbing as we get older so the warm herbal tea is the best way to go. Also Rosemary essential oil is what I put on the goats noses.
Rosemary can be rubbed or massaged into skin to help circulation, plus added bennifit it relieves joint pain.
They sell teas in combinations for specific remedies, rather than buying each one separately Not all teas are the same quality. The same with the essential oils. If you check out the essential oils, don't get them mixed up with FRAGRANCE oils. Not the same. The essentials are again extracted from herb plants.  If you do a search on google something like
" Herbs that help improve circulation" OR " Essential Oils that improve circulation" The good essential oils are a bit expensive, but last forever because you only use a little at a time.
For great teas I buy mine at www.specialteas.com
They have them in combo for different ailements They refer to them as
Herbal InfusionsOne that may help circulation is " Immunity Booster" I know it has ginger in it
With teas the longer you let them sit in the water, the stronger they get and more benificial. Make a full pot in the morning, drink it for the day.
The essential oils are great for healing. I keep certain ones on hand.
Hope this helps. Most people who actually use them find they work far better then any drugs.

Thanks Joyce.

Here's one that I swear by - it is an oil that keeps dog ears (and goat ears) clean and free from mites and infection.  I've tried other oils for this (including a great smelling one from Joyce) but nothing worked like this one - it's a combination of olive oil and mullein and garlic essential oils.  I get it from Molly's Herbals.  It's expensive but way cheaper than a vet visit and works fabulously.  Makes the animals smell like an Italian dinner though . . .

Thanks for the tea recommendations Joyce!!

You're welcome. Actually Patty the one I gave you is really more for wounds or sores, both human and animals. It will kill any infection, an antiseptic plus with the Aloe it's soothing unlike the alchol based ones the vets usually have.  I can tell they don't mind this one and it doesn't burn. I tried it in one of my dogs ears after he had been in a fight. His ear was swollen huge, infected. I had missed the wound in his ear when I check right after the fight. That's why I tried the stuff in his ear, but it healed in two days. It seems to work for cleaning their ears. They are not showing any signs of itching or shaking their heads. Only disadvantage I have to use it often.
