It's here, ice

Thin layer of ice on the water outside this morning. Reality is just around the corner LOL. Gorgeous day though. Sunny 33 and going into the 60's.

Wowsers..if the winter gets as cold as the summer was hot we are in trouble..is that normal around this time of year or is it early up there??

OK, I know winter is REALLY winter where you live, but I've been so relieved to have this summer over that I've been coming up with all the reasons I LIKE winter. Here are a few:
No bugs.
I can wear my wooly robe in the morning.
The water in the trough doesn't turn green with algae.
No chiggers to bite the horses legs.
No flies.
No snakes.
I can see my horses from my window after the leaves all fall.
No worry about poisonous plants cropping up in the pasture.
Less bother keeping the electric fence free from weeds.
I LOVE my horses when they have their thick winter coats. (I'm wierd that way - I know most people like the slick clipped look better.)
More energy in my animals.
I don't sweatjust from walking out to the mailbox.
Fewer showers and less use of water!
I can heat with wood and don't have to pay so much to the electric company.
When I bake, it just adds to the warmth (don't have to heat the food and then cool the house down afterwards.)
Yep, I think winter is pretty good.

Normal for this time of the year is 70!
I think--hope---it will turn around and warm back up for a while. First frost is normally around October 10 or so but that is not a killing frost, just nips the flowers etc. We can have a dusting of snow around Halloween but that isn't the norm. First snow usually in middle of November.
