That is one of my pet peeves. Too many people call a foal a colt. You especially find that with the old timers.
So what sex is he?

I don't let that bother me.
Here in Wyoming I have good friends who refer to their foals as their colt crop and they mean all of them. And they are good "salt of the earth" kind of people! :-)
I know they learned it from their parents probably, as it is still the way ranchers talk out West....... at least around here.
And I have always loved cowboys and their way of life and the way they talk, even when I personally know better what is gramatically and linguistically correct! :-)
This is not meant to offend any of you. It is just my humble opinion :-)

My sisters boyfriend had a preggy horse for his grandkids, one morning she called me up and said " the colt was born yesterday! ( it was a filly)...and we went to the tackle shop to get a halter for it!
We laughed soo hard! My hubbie said..." she's not going fishing!

...oh yea, and then the other day she went to a big auction...I asked her what breeds were there ...and she said..Quarter horses, palaminos, geldings and colts
....we always tease her, she's always good for a laugh
she laughs right along with us when we correct her, then next time we see her, she totally forgets the correct terms, and we laugh at her again
