Miniature draft horse?

I had a friend tell me long ago that his grandfather bred minis and  had a mini that looked like a draft horse...sold it for 25,000.00
He said it had the hairy hooves and everything. Has anyone ever seen one of these guys? When I try to google it , nothing comes up. I think it would be neat to see.

I saw a gorgeous team at a sale in Iowa. Not sure they were a breed either but probably several different crosses. They had the feathers ( the hair above the hoof) also. They looked like our Belgian horses only about 12 hands i would guess, so not really Mini size as at the maxium that would be 38 inches for "R" horses. But smaller for sure. Sort of like Haflingers (sp?) only a tad shorter in height.

At the rescue/retirement place where we got Chip they have a Clydesdale/Welch cross that is a very pretty horse. About 12 hands and has the leg feathers too. Colored just like a Clyde., is too.

I have heard something similar about Nova Scotia, way back in the 30's-n-40's.  I tend to take them being what WE call minis, with a grain of salt however, as most of these guys will also tell you they were around 600-800 pounds.  That is still a mini-size...for a draft.

I'll have to track my friend down and ask him what his grandfathers name was...he was breeding either AMHA or AMHR horses in the interior of B.C.
From what I understand, this guy was as small as a mini. I'll ask him what he knows tonight

I think there is definately a difference from the Maritimes, to those that were out West. I've had lots of folks whose parents or grandparents raised what they referred to then, as minis, see ours and say they were no way-nowhere near as small, as even the largest of ours.

if they were breeding registered AMHA or AMHR minis, they'd have been 38 inches or under, but it would have been in the 70's.

Looking at many of the original AMHR minis, I would agree that there were many that looked like drafty little things.  I think they were closest to the UK Shetland back then, and they can be quite drafty, even now.

I got hold of my friends mom....she said she was going to find a pic to e mail me. I'm a bit confused though...she said they called him Tennessee. His grandfathers farm name was Monashee Miniature Horse Ranch. (I did get permission to post the name and pic when I get it). I looked up the name a bit last night....but the only one I could find was Prince Monashee Tennessee, but he didn't have the feathery hooves . She said she was going to find out the papered name for me too.

Maybe the pictures we\ve seen of him lately he's been clipped.  Still, were it he...that horse sure never looked like any draft horse.

I know...   I don't know how old he was when he was sold, I just know it was about 10 years ago, but I guess I would have to have permission from his new owners to post the picture, and I don't know who they are.  These pics would be of my friend with the horse when he was a kid, so I don't know how that would work with the permission thing.  They did give me permission, but how would that go for the new owners?     Woa...now I'm starting to confuse myself The only way would be to track him down through his papers I guess.  I sure can't wait to get all the info and the pic....I'm sooo curious.

If it is her pictures and she gave permission go right ahead.. Nothing wrong with that..   There are a lot of horses with Monashee  bloodlines out west here. I even have some in a few pedigrees.Prince Monashee Tennessee was
an outstanding horse.. What a beauty... You can find him on most of the
historical mini horse sites.. He sired 57 AMHA reg. horses and I don't
know how many AMHR.

I have a couple mares with the Prince Tennessee Monashee in their background. I talk to Dave Williams of Riftswood Miniatures and he says he was a bay/white pinto. My mares sire is Monashees Son of Tennessee who is a red dun pinto owned by D. Harrick. My one mare is a Red dun, the other is a Chestnut/white pinto both with alot of  blue roan, some buckskin, chemello and pinto in their background.

I don't have any Monashee horses, but recal seeing pictures of this horse and thought he was VERY nicely refined and ahead of his time.

yea, the draft horse look a like was another one he hadthat they called Dusty, not sure on the paper name, but I'm getting pics.
My friend said that Prince Tennessee Monashee was born on his grandfathers ranch. Monashee Miniature horse Ranch- and his grandfathers name is George Ellis.

We have a stouts-bred gelding that looks very much like a quarterhorseXdraft. Not the refined QH of today, but the lower-set "bull-doggie" type from way back.  That is our Buddy, and he has double the bone than any of the other horses we have.

I will post a picdture of him after I find it.  I just cleaned-up this old puter, and put everything onto discs.  Now...I can't find anything.  It's like my house-cleaning.

that's funny, it's it how it always goes...murphys law
