My new appy colt :)I wanted to share with you my new appy colt. I am thrilled that Ginny Long is selling him to me! His name is CCMF Carousel Calypso!
He is a son of her gorgeous stallion Carousel Designer Legacy and a fewspot mare Magic Place Pandora!
I just fell in love with him when I saw his pics and now I have to wait til he is weaned to get him home to Wyoming! But Ginny is a wonderful friend and has always been so good to me, I know he is in good hands!

Christine, You are so lucky to have met Ginny in person. :-)
We have been friends for about 7 years now and once when she was working in Utah we almost got to meet in person but a snow storm prevented it!!
Yuck one more reason I HATE winter! hahaha
Incidentally we are supposed to get a big snowstorm this weekend :(
But I am too excited about this little boy to let it get me down!! yippee!!

Haha Christine,
I am planning on him and this new little guy being an integral part of my program for years to come.
But if you ever get adventurous you can send a mare or two up to Wyoming when he grows up! ))

She is BEAUTIFUL!
IF she gave her cream gene and he gave his champagne gene you would have a classic cream champagne if it was black based like him, or a gold cream champagne if it was red based like her.
But he does not carry the cream gene also. He is a straight classic, just the champagne gene on black.
I do not know for sure if he is heterozygous for black , as he "could" be homozygous for black if both his black based parents gave him their black gene. If he is homozygous for black he could only produce black based champagnes........no golds. I have not had him tested for it.
Of course if he did not give his champagne gene and she did not give her cream gene you'd get a black horse or a chestnut, again based on if he is not homozygous for black.
Sorry if I have totally confused you.
I really prefer not to breed a champagne cream to another cream horse because if you get a champagne foal that also carries two cream genes it is often hard to know for sure if it is champagne or not. The double dilute of cream keeps the champagne freckles from appearing.
Remember the cream gene is a totally different gene from the champagne gene.

Christine,
The champagne gene dilutes the coat of a black horse to look like Little Buck here.
But if it is a black horse that has both the champagne dilution gene and also the cream dilution gene, it dilutes it even further to look like Cocoa on his website here. He is a classic cream.

Can you see the difference?
