Stupid skunksWe had problems last year with a skunk and she was back! Had to rip the wood floor out of the barn where i pile my hay searching for any sign of babies. Didn't find any. Saw a skunk splattered on the highway so i was happy thinking that was that. Yesterday i went to the barn to run some water in the afternoon and WOW there we 9 babies running around. Oh man. We got rid of them and hopefully the female skunk too. Not too sure about her. We used a quick acting gas. Hate to do that but can't have them living in the barn. Dang they are cute.

Darn...wish I'd been there. I had a young skunk once, but he was too old to truely tame 100%, and he started getting nasty...I released him. He was used to gathering his own food, and skunks are more than able to take care of themselves...so I figured it was safe enough for him.
I would love the chance to try again, with one I'd have to handraise...as they really do make excellent pets...pretty much like cats. if you get them young enough that they tame, then you can have them nutered and de-scented.

You would have to find a vet to de-scent under the table though.. it is against the law to have a wild animal native to Canada... We had geese once.. friend hatched them and brought them to us.. Poor things prob. got shot landing by people in hunting season looking for a hand out. Yah I would like a raccoon or a skunk... wonder if Christines new kittens have a stripe. LOL

I had no problem with finding a Vet who would have the skunk nutered or descented...but I never had it done because of his nasiness and age. Perhaps skunks aren't the same, as they do actually raise them in captivity in places, as pets. I have even read books on how to raise skunks in the petshops.

And if they would have just dug a hole or something simple but she actually dug under the cement in the isle way of the barn. Too bad.
