Why I Love Nova Scotia

It's winter in Nova Scotia
And the gentle breezes blow,
70 miles per hour at 52 below!
Oh, how I love Nova Scotia
When the snow's up to your butt.
You take a breath of winter air
And your nose is frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful,
I guess I'll hang around.
I could never leave Nova Scotia
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground.

I love is Sue... did you write it  or what...

Crocker's Critters

Nope...I didn't write it...but I think I could have...as it pretty much exemplifies my feelings about Nova Scotian winters.  Then again Agie...you can have your Western winter too!!!  (Been there...done with THAT!)
McBunz

But Sue ours skies are the prettiest blue except when it is overcast or snowing. We don't get those coastal grays..or bone chilling humidity. I have been to the west coast in the winter.  darn near froze to death..
When we left the room the hotel workers would come in a open the windows.
Even the bedding was damp..I much prefer our dry cold to that..
When we do get some moister in the air , we get the most beautiful frost..
Crocker's Critters

Well, I am not on the coast...so we don't get that damp air, or the coastal grey,  here.  BUT, as for that "dry cold bit"...I say Poopie on that!!  I have been out there in Alberta, loxing aircraft at -40 or more...excluding the windchill...and that is cold...no-no-no...that is C-O-L-D-!!

I'll just bet it was.. not much shelter on an airstrip...
Crocker's Critters

Yeah...those old F-5's weren't that cozy to huddle against.
McBunz

I do envy  all the places you have seen thou.. but the air force was a hard way to do it..    I do plan to get to the east coast some day.. My sister was there a couple of times now and just loved it.. but not in the winter thank you...  I get to down load all her pictures.. as she doesn't know how..
She kissed the cod and everything..

Where does she live?

Can't say that I have...but I did have a cod's ear pair of earings once.
McBunz

She lives in St Albert   just out side of Edmonton..  So you girls will know what we are talking about..

   *  the "Screech-in"- The most famous of newcomer traditions, mainlanders and visitors to the isle must drink a shot or glass of Screech (a brand of Jamaican Rum famous to Newfoundland). Take this all in good humour, but don't be surprised if you don't like the taste; the name has good meaning.

   * Kissing the Cod- As well as being "Screeched in", occasionally visitors will be coaxed into "Kissing the Cod". The visitor must kiss a codfish, emblem of the historic fishing industry, after arrival. While this does happen occasionally, it is usually a humorous part of a guided tour or similar event. The use of an actual fish is rare, though, especially since the introduction of the cod moritorum. Kissing a real codfish is discouraged by many, not to mention possibly unhygienic, so an imitation cod, made of wood, plastic, or rubber is used.    My sisters cod was real.  and the Screech is something else again.. wicked stuff.. There is a poem you recite before kissing the cod... but I can't find it.. It is breath taking beautiful country on the east coast as it is on the west coast, but I think the east coast is even more colorful..

That is a Newfoundlander "thing".     That must be where she visited.

I would make a poor Newfie...as you couldn't MAKE me eat cod fish, not on yer life!!      Actually, the only seafoods I like are lobster, scallops and the occational haddock or halibut.  EXCEPT for my very-very favorite, which is KING crab from the West coast.  (slobber-drool)

They did the whole east coast thing.. they were down there for 6 weeks the last trip out..

A co-worker who worked with my husband is from Newfoundland and he ordered a crate of King crab from a buddy back home. We bought four and yes they were very good still alive. {my favorite too} Some day we want to visit the West coast too.

I don't know where on the east coast this one was taken. but I know I could spend days on a beach like this.. Sand is a little coarse thou..
Crocker's Critters

That looks like some of the sand over by my Parent's place...it's a bit difficult to get out of your bathing suit, sure can rub-ya-raw...

Speaking of sand...REAL WHITE SAND...  We were hit by that tropical storm not too many weeks back, and it completely obliterated over four miles of beautiful beach about an hour from us.        The road was completely washed away as well.  Amazing what the wind can do in a few short hours!!
