The middle kitty will rub up against him and be affectionate for a second then run... The youngest kitty hisses and spits at him from across the room but she's "special" anyway. 
I will say that Polo likes to put his cold nose in the kitty's backside.. and I hear this very annoyed meow everytime it happens.. 
I think they want to be affectionate with him but he's a puppy and his energy level is too high still. I try to hold the cats and "talk" to them while Polo is right there so he knows they aren't toys and we have to love kitties.
