So Patty...Posted: Mon Jul 10, 2006 1:42 am Post subject:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So Patty ( my twin) where in Wisonsin did you grow up.? I also miss it and lived there for a while up near Lacross. Beautiful there. There was always things to go to and it wasn't too hot like here in TN. Corn grows so they have corn fest, strawberries come in they have strawberry fest,
Cranberry Fest, the Omish with the buggys, best meat, cheese.
The beautiful views.
What kind of goats do you have? Am I allowed to ask that on the horse page?? Oh well sorry I already forgot what the subject post is... Post on the Critters or Campfire

WisconsinYou grew up in Wisconsin too!??
Wow. We are twins.
I grew up in two suburbs of Milwaukee. Great cheese, lots of farms, beautiful summers, great people. I miss some of it. I even miss the snow and some of the cold. Just not 5 months of it. I only owned 3 or 4 short sleeved shirts and we never had air conditioning in our cars. That was nice. Don't miss the 20 -30 degrees below zero, though. I still have family that lives in the Upper Peninsula and almost took a job there once.
I have 2 doelings 2 weeks old on Sunday. They are 3/4 fainting goat and 1/4 nubian. Black and white patches and absolutely adorable twins. Avery and Abigail, and Avery is already quite a bit bigger. They have started nibbling grass and dead leaves and I think we are ready to reduce to 3 feedings per day. They are totally fearless and crawl under the horses legs (including my big Arabian when he comes to visit). I've never had goats before. Or minis either! I'm learning as I go along.
I did have the tea tree oil from before but didn't know it would work on chiggers. Could you check on your recipe for the natural fly spray? I'd use it if you could get me some more precise indications of how much of each oil to put in. No rush, but when you get a chance.
What kind of goats do you have? what are your minis named? How long have you had them?
I'm sure glad to know you, and we don't live to far from one another!

I did grow up near the Illinois / Wisconsin state line next to Lake Michigan.
We also moved up near LaCrosse for a few years. We loved it except for winter lasts almost six months out of the year.
I am nursing a Nigerian Dwarf little buckling right now. He's black & white, you probably saw his picture. He is so tiny.almost two months old. He eating from the pasture during the day and I'm bottle feeding him five times a day with the last feeding just now to put him to bed for the night. He's eating a little grain. Not sure if that is good or not. I have a little tikes play slide out there. He's running up and down the slide now. He's in with the chickens. The two does I have plain names Molly & Mini I call them my M&M's also Nigerian Dwarfs they will be a year old next month. They were picking on my little guy, so he has to stay with the chickens until he's a little bigger. I plan to breed them whenever this little guy is ready. These little goats can produce up to two quart of milk a day. Giving them Kelp helps increase their milk production. I'm hoping to have fresh goats milk and use some for soaping.
I also have the Great Pryenees Pups. Kodiak Bear (Kodi) will be a year next month also. The female is Panda Bear ( Pandareena) she is 5 months old. I may breed them when she's old enough. They are great dogs. Love to cuddle, plus they work all night guarding all the critters.
Then I have my two boys I bought from Christine in November of last year. They turned a year old last April. They are so much fun. I am new to the Miniature horses. I did grow up around horses, I had one I rode when I was little, and the grandparents had them and uncles. Still I knew nothing about them except I've always wanted one. So I went to see Christine about a filly and she talked me into two colts! She named them, one I think is her son's name lol Frank and the other one after her teddy bear maybe? Teddy They are getting so lovable. I think there will be pics posted tomorrow of them. And one of them with the Dog Kodie.
The natural horse spray, I don't think I had precise measurements, I only experimented for myself. The oils are strong, I would just try a few drops of each and use distilled water. Since oils and water don't mix you have to shake just prior to use. If it doesn't work make it stronger the next time... Or check on the net... bet they have similar more accurate recipes for this. It also has sooo many uses for the tea tree oil. I'll look for my recipe, it may only have ingredients, but not amounts.
Enjoyed talking to ya!

You are a good goat Momma! I'm bottle feeding mine, too, but they are down to 4 bottles/day and almost 3. They are 2 weeks old and have started nibbling on grass. This morning I felt their little horns poking out!

The slide sounds like tons of fun. I need something for these two to climb on, too. Right now they love the wood pile, but it will soon be removed and stacked closer to home.

WOw. I would love to do that. My Mom used to make soap. Don't know how these two will be with milk. Nubians are supposed to be good dairy goats, though. I'm hoping to breed them, but don't know yet who will be the father since I ended up with two does and no buckling.

Awww. You have young ones! Aren't they the cutest puppies on the planet? Mine two are both fixed females and 4 and 5 years old. They guard me all night and are outside in the day. So far I haven't left them with the goats (don't trust that yet) and the two minis chase them around!!
Aren't the animals great?
Right now with the goat feeding, they take every waking moment, but I love it.
have a good day!
