Too Many Lies

Bet that makes you look! That is the name of our new horse we purchased at the rescue today.

He won't come home until his coggins catches up with him from the race track. Hopefully in 10 days. He has been trace clipped and we are headed to -40 wind chill tomorrow night...we need to go buy him a blanket in the next few days. We went looking for a nice broke older horse and came away with a 6 year old that raced at Arlington in Ky, Chicago and up here at Canterbury Downs in MN.! He is a sweety though. Had a eye injury so he was pulled from the track. Here is his ad:

"Too Many Lies (aka "Jerry") is a 6 year old Kentucky bred Thoroughbred gelding (Cold Case x Steinlen (Great Britain mare)).  During his short racing career, he had winnings in excess of $50,000.  He even won at Arlington.  He arrived at the rescue in January 2008.  While we have not measured him yet, we are pretty sure he's at least 16h.  Jerry did have an eye injury (which is why he was taken off the track) that he was recovering from before he arrived and a head injury.  The eye has healed very well, however, he does appear to have some nerve damage to one side of his face.  At this time, we do not know if the damage is permanent or the exact cause."

The injury amounts to a slight drop of his lip and 1 ear is not prefectly straight upward. Not a problem for us though. A long way from the good old broke horse we went after LOL. He will undergo a name change, not sure what yet though.

McBunz

Well he will certainly be able to keep up with the cattle...LOL
Name change...???? How about YOU Lucked out Fella. Short Lucky Fella Got himself a great home..
IZZY

Haha, you could call him clover for a nickname or lucky charms
He's cute,  if he goes that fast, you'll feel like you're flying when you take him for a cruise.
The damage done would give him extra character....that's what my hubbie said when we looked at horse that was attacked by a Cougar years ago. My hubbie wanted him bad, but there was someone who looked at him before we got there, and they had first dibbs.

LOL. Hopefully he has a "whoa" on him. Lucky fella is right.

How did he end up in rescue??

I would think a horse that won that much money would not be in that situation...but in any event...he sure is lucky to be coming home with you!!!!

He sounds like lots of fun and a bit of a challenge, too!
Tall and fast.
They don't teach them "whoa" at the race track!

He ended up in the rescue because as a race horse, with an eye injury he couldn't race. They don't take the time, spend the money to keep the animal to find a buyer. This rescue had a lot of horses off the race track. She said she gets calls frequently from the race track to pick up a horse that they no longer want. The horses are treated by the track vet, updated on all shots, with a light barn blanket and sent away to where ever fate may take them. As a gelding he was worthless if he couldm't run and win i guess. His winnings we not that much that warranted them wanting to keep him longer.

He has a "whoa" on him already but it is slow delivered.

Yes C we went to see him yesterday and spent 2 hours with the horse. He is snoopy and will drag a blanket, bale of hay or whatever he can find off to play with. It will be fun to see what we can do with him. We have his blanket on order so as soon as that arrives and his coggins and jockey club papers arrive we can pick him up.

Can see it all now... While your horse prances on the spot , Lloyd's horse will be a half mile down the road...    So much for riding together for awhile..

BIG Congrats to Lloyd and you Betty the horse you rescued is going to have a real good life with your family. I think you should keep the name Jerry he might be used to it him being six years old. His face will give him character, one of my mares when she was a young filly [ didn't own her then] ran into a fence during a thunder storm. She still has a very deep indent on her neck muscules where the vet had to stitch her up. It is noticable but she is now thirteen and doing fine. Jerry is a tall guy mine are fifteen hands and for me lots high enough.

Gee, congratulations, Betty!  My neighbor had a Standardbred mare who raced some with a hip down, and finally he took pity on the poor thing and retired her.  His daughter then made a riding horse out of her and played polo on her ....... too much stress on that downed hip, in my book, but I know you won't be doing anything like that to your new baby boy!  You have such a great big heart, Betty!

For sure congratulations and good luck with him.
