One of the two remaining unhatched eggs had a dead baby chick
still in it, it was partially open but looked as if it couldn't get out
Hard shell? Anyway I remove the last two remaining. Henrietta hatched 10 of the twelve. Pretty good considering it was during our snow storm with no heat.
ADIE wanted to let you know, I'm feeding Henrietta a little extra since
she is breast feeding 10 baby chicks

Well don't feel to bad about the one... I have tried helping chicks and duckling that can't make it out of the shell..  Most of the time they die
anyhow... Just not strong enough to survive on their own..

yea, and sometimes, how strong they are doesn't seem to matter anyway.
I don't know if any of you girls have ever had issues with chickens and other animals but...
We used to have some sheep when I was a kid. My dad had borrowed the neighbours ram for breeding. He sure was a mean thing, as soon as you had your back turned he would come after you, even if you had just finished feeding him grain!
I had noticed that the number of chicks was dwindling.
One day I was filling the water bucket up ... Lionel the ram came to take a drink. There was a chick beside the bucket, chirping away.
All of a sudden Lionel scooped up that chick and ate him!
They always had loads of food, so that wasn't an issue....I couldn't belive it!
That was the last time we borrowed him.... poor little chick.
