Hi Sher,
Good point! " Have you thought about getting a different vet to do it this time?" I am thinking of using Chritine's vet. They have another location kind of close to me.
Pola's one eye is still bothering her. I am supposed to bring her in tomorrow again. I took her in for another look about 5 days ago. I've already paid for the sugery so I guess I'll take her back to get the other eye right.
You said you've seen this type of surgery when you worked with a vet?
Do you know if the eyes ever look normal again? She had pretty black eyeliner around her eyes before but now she has pink skin hanging out.
Look like she needs her make-up!
Also My horse was coughing and not breathing well like he has a cold. He sounded raspy and as if he was choking on something. I called the vet for a house call, I live just up the road, a few houses between us. Just wanted her to check him out and make sure it's nothing serious. They said they didn't have time and for me to come in get an antibiotic. I asked if they had time any time this week. Haven't heard.

Yes I need to go to another vet. I did pick up the meds and Teddy is better after only a couple days. Still it would be nice to have him checked out when I want. Especially since I'm new with horses. I should not have to bother Christine everytime. She's not being paid to check out my horses. lol
I am giving them Red Cell and apples / carrots daily. Hopefully it will build up his immune system. No reason he should get a cold. _________________ TooMiniAcres |

Make sure you give the all the meds. If not it could come back
worse than the first time.... And then sometimes
the meds don't work and you would need stronger meds. _________________ Vote for Maxine. She makes the most sense.. |

Great! That's all I need. I will keep a close eye on him. He's not acting sick at all. Running and playing except for naps _________________ TooMiniAcres |

Does he have a fever or did he???? Might be pneumonia.. Haven't
heard of to many with colds... If it is pneumonia your stupid vet
should get over and check him out, not just hand out meds.
and not do check to make sure he is over it and not be in need
further meds... _________________ Vote for Maxine. She makes the most sense.. |

/Well..its kinda like when humans take antibiotics and the doctor tellsus to take them for 10 days..No matter if it got better..if you don't kill the bacteria completly you making them stronger..super bacteria ! _________________ Come visit our website!! http://www.littlesteppers.com

Well aren't there other symptoms to look for when a horse has a fever? I don't have anything to check his temp. We haven't had kids at home for years and we rarely get sick so I'm not prepared. I'm going to find out what things I need to keep on hand for them.
With kids they act sick, feel really warm and usually not running around playing. Honestly Teddy did not act sick at all. He did not feel warm and is acting funny and playing as he usually does. I only notice him hacking trying to cough something up or choking a little. I didn't even notice him doing it today. That hay makes me cough. For all I know it could just be from the hay. The vet said give the meds until he stops about then give them a few extra days.
I know how antibiotics work for humans. They kill the good bacteria along with the bad, cause yeast and kill our immune system If I really need antibiotics for some reason, I take Goldenseal. It's an alternative for the same, but doesn't weaken the immune system. Don't know if those things work for horses. _________________ TooMiniAcres |

Yes, the eyelids looked good afterwards when the Vet I worked for did them. he didn't do very many, so maybe there's a certain "failure rate" involved with the surgery, but I doubt it. Poor Pola, and poor YOU! Your Vet oughta be run outta town on a rail, tarred & feathered beforehand. Hope your little guys is okay with that cough. Sounds like he had a sore throat or soemthing caught in it, but then the meds wouldn't've made much difference if it was a wad of hay or feed or grass or something. Get yourself a horse rectal thermometer, tie a bunch of kite string through the hole in the end of it, and tie a clothespin to the string. That way you can insert the thermometer and clip the clothespin to his tail and can retrieve it if it gets "sucked in" to his rectum ( hey, it could happen! ). _________________ Character is doing the right thing, even when nobody is watching. |
